Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs
PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The Laboratory of Neuropsychology investigates higher brain functions such as explicit and implicit visual processing, memory, and reward-related behaviors. We will be working on a study that seeks to study causal relationships between brain areas and behavior. This novel research requires an optical stimulation system to activate transfected neurons in the brains of monkeys. The requirement is to obtain light emitting green LED emitting arrays and circuitry for driving them. The LED arrays are specifically for implantation in nonhuman primates.
2. Background Information and Objective: This is the fifth acquisition of a LED cortical stimulation system for the Laboratory of Neuropsychology. It is the fourth one to be used by the Unit on Neurons, Circuits and Behavior. Early studies have been very successful. This purchase is to expand the use of this recently developed technique to explore the causal relationship between visual cortex neuronal activity and perception.
