Demonstration that the proposed brand name product’s salient characteristics (specific features, qualities and/or the nature of the acquisition) requires use of the authority cited.
10X Genomics offers proprietary microfluidic circuits that rapidly partition input samples (e.g.
higher molecular weight DNA, single cells), which are then barcoded using the GemCode Technology. This technology is not available through any other vendor or instrumentation. This is the only known instrument in existence that meets our need to sequence thousands of transcriptomes is a single run from single cells and while obtaining phenotypic data from those same cells.
No other kits/reagents are compatible with instrument and attempting to run another vendor’s similar product would not be supported by the instrument. This could cause the instrument to become non-functioning and un-repairable. Therefore, having to replace equipment would be very costly to the government. Members of the DCIA consortium have used to 10X GemCode Technology and the current request for 10X Chromium Library Construction kits and 10X Chromium Controller instrument will ensure on-going research/experiments are not compromised with changing variables. Maintaining existing reagents/protocols is paramount to the success of on-going research efforts and the goal of the DCIA-funded initiative to provide a standardized toolkit to the NIH research community for investigating antigen-specific B-cell responses.
