• Project Summary
• Location: Mammoth Cave National Park is located approximately halfway between Nashville, Tennessee and Louisville, Kentucky near interstate 65 in Edmonson County, Kentucky.
Work Site Location
12 D
• This project involves the installation of four HVAC units at one of Mammoth Cave’s historic buildings, Bldg. 55, Concession’s warehouse.
i. The units to be installed include two new packaged HVAC units with a 100k BTU heat pump. One unit will be a 4-ton unit and the other will be a 2-ton unit, both on the main level. (See Floor Plans)
ii. Secondly, two new 1.5-ton split HVAC units will be installed upstairs (one installed on both ends) with 32k BTU heat pumps. (See Floor Plans)
iii. All units shall have their own programmable and lockable thermostats.
• The Contractor is responsible for providing all materials, labor, and equipment, and for performing all installation, testing, and cleanup tasks. The Contractor will also provide staff training on the use and maintenance of the installed HVAC systems.
• Detailed Requirements
• Installation: The Contractor shall purchase and install the HVAC units, ductwork, and thermostats as per manufacturer's guidelines and in accordance with all relevant local, state, American National Institute (ANSI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and federal building codes. The Contractor will also be responsible for the construction of concrete pads for the outdoor portion of the units.
• Zones: The Contractor will ensure that all zones have the capability of maintaining different temperatures in different areas of the building. The Contractor will provide load calculations to ensure the HVAC system is appropriately sized for the space. All filters must meet the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) of 13.
• Ductwork and Filter Boxes: The ductwork to be utilized will primarily be rigid/metal ductwork.
The Contractor shall ensure that the ductwork is properly installed to alleviate any issues (sagging, twisting, or kinking). Additionally, all ductworks must be installed without penetrating any existing wood beams or any other structural items in the building, as per historic preservation requirements. The Contractor must submit shop drawings for approval before the installation.
• In addition to rigid/metal ductwork, a new filter box will be installed on the interior unit of each HVAC system. The filter box shall be designed for easy access, facilitating regular maintenance and replacement of filters. As with the ductwork, the filter box installation shall be in adherence to HVAC industry standards.
• Thermostats: Each HVAC unit will be controlled by a programmable, lockable thermostat. The Contractor must provide technical data sheets for the proposed thermostats for approval.
• Concrete Pads: The concrete pads for the outdoor units should be a minimum of 4 inches thick, provide a minimum of 6 inches clearance around the condensing units, and have a smooth finish with a tapered edge.
• Submittals
• Prior to the start of the work, the Contractor shall provide to the Contracting Officer (CO) and/or the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR):
i. Safety Plan
ii. HVAC Certifications for Installers
iii. Shop drawings showing the proposed installation

v. A work schedule detailing the proposed timeline for the project
vi. A list of all materials to be used in the project for approval
• Preservation of Historic Elements: The Contractor shall ensure that the project execution respects the building's historic character. All necessary precautions should be taken to avoid damaging historic elements, especially the wood beams. If any conditions apply that cannot meet these requirements, immediately contact the COR.
• Testing, Inspection and Training: Post-installation, the Contractor shall conduct a thorough inspection and testing of the HVAC systems to confirm proper installation and operation. Once satisfied, the Contractor will provide comprehensive training to the staff on the operation and maintenance of the HVAC systems. Inspection results must be provided to the COR.
• Cleanup and Restoration: The Contractor will be responsible for cleaning up the work area after completion of the project. Any parts of the building that were disturbed during the installation process should be restored to their original state as much as possible.
• Compliance: The Contractor is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and environmental regulations throughout the project. This includes obtaining necessary permits, following correct disposal procedures for waste materials, and ensuring all equipment and materials meet energy efficiency standards.
• Project Timeline and Scheduling: The Contractor must provide a detailed project schedule with key milestones and estimated completion dates to the CO/COR. This schedule should be approved before work commences.
• Hours and Schedule: Work on this project shall occur Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, unless otherwise approved/restricted by the COR/CO. No work shall be undertaken on federal holidays or weekends unless otherwise approved by the COR/CO.
• Warranty: The Contractor shall provide a comprehensive warranty for the HVAC installation project.
The warranty shall cover both the materials used and the workmanship for a period of one year from the date of project completion, or as otherwise stipulated by state or local laws. The warranty shall cover the repair or replacement of any components of the HVAC system that fail or perform inadequately due to improper installation or defective materials. Any such repairs or replacements shall be performed at no additional cost to the Government.
