About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for a solicitation regarding the construction and delivery of sheds to a military base. The document provides clarifications on technical specifications and requirements for 12' x 24' sheds.

Key details include: galvanized 2x6 steel foundation at 16" OC spacing is acceptable; specific door and window placements are outlined with one door in the middle of front and rear walls, one window on the front wall left of the door, and transom windows on each side of the front door; the installation surface will be gravel; no permits are required for the military base installation; either metal or shingle roofing is acceptable; the contractor is responsible for transport and offload; 4x4 runners can be two 12ft lengths if properly constructed; floor joists must be 16" OC; smart finish wood flooring does not need to be tongue and groove; screws are required for base plate installation; and no interior finishing is required. On-site assembly using prefabricated components is possible but depends on construction time as someone must fly to the site to oversee construction.

QUESTIONS

ANSWERS

1. Can we use Galvanized 2x6 Steel Foundation (16" OC) instead of what you list?

Yes

2. Do you have specific locations for the windows and doors, i.e., doors on each end or on sidewalls? Do you want transom windows evenly spaced on 24' wall?

Yes

One door in the middle of the front wall, one directly opposite it on the rear wall, one window on the front wall, left of the door and a transom window on each side of the door on the front wall

3. As a military base build/install, are permits not required?

No permits required

4. What will be the surface area that we drop or assemble on?

gravel

5. Due to the size of the structure (12’ x 24’) delivery as fully assembled shed presents challenges for transport (DOT requires escort, etc). Can we use prefab sections and assemble on site?

Possibly, depends on construction time onsite.

We will have to have someone fly there and standby during the construction time.

6. Can we get a layout of where you would like windows and doors requested?

Yes

One door in the middle of the front wall, one directly opposite it on the rear wall, one window on the front wall, left of the door and a transom window on each side of the door on the front wall

7. What roofing material is to be used for sheds or is it just 1/2" wood roof sheating?

Metal or Shingles

8. Is contractor responsible for transporting sheds to place of use, or just offloading?

Yes, transport and offload

9. I wanted to clarify one aspect of the shed delivery. We typically build our sheds on-site, prefabricating the walls and doors at the factory, and pre-cutting the flooring and roofing materials. Would this method work for your needs, or is it a requirement for the shed to be fully assembled before delivery?

standby during the construction time

10. Can these sheds be built on site?

standby during the construction time

11. Are the 4x4 runners at 24ft a continuous/solid length? Or may they be 12ft in length to equal 24ft?

Two twelve ft runners may be used as long as they are constructed in such a manner as they provide the same strength as a single 24”

12. Please confirm if the spacing of the runners are required to be constructed at 16” o.c.?

Yes, they must be 16” OC

13. Please confirm if the floor joist spacing is at 16” o.c?

Yes, it is

14. Is the “smart finish wood flooring” required to be tongue and groove?

No

15. The SOW did not mention roofing material. Please confirm that roofing material such as asphalt shingle or metal roofing material is not necessary.

Metal or Shingles

16. Is there a preference for base plate installation to 4x4 runner? Such as SDS screws or nails? Or is this connection at the discretion of the contractor?

screws

17. Please confirm that no interior finish is necessary, such as insulation, drywall or interior sheathing?

Correct, no interior finish is required.
