Gutter Replacement – Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Solicitation #140P6421R0045 Questions & Answers

Q - [If we] cannot get “Brushed Aluminum” in seamless, is “Galvanized Steel” acceptable?

A - Galvanized steel is what the park has installed in the past. They haven't held up well and so they switched to aluminum because the color of a bare aluminum was similar enough to the galvanized steel that was historically on these buildings.

One possible workaround would be if the contractor had a reverse-bead 6" gutter machine, because regular enameled gutter coil could be unspooled and respooled upside down. This would leave the enameled side facing in and the unfinished aluminum side facing out. This only works on a reverse-bead half-round gutter because the way the gutter is rolled only in one direction.

The other option would be to say that the brushed aluminum gutters don't need to be seamless.

There are commercially available pre-formed sections of brushed aluminum 6" half-round gutters and 4" downs. They come in 20' sections, which is long enough for most of the Welton House. For example, here is a company that sells the product… https://www.guttersupply.com/p/gutters/mill-finish-aluminum

…they call it "mill finish" but it is functionally the same as brushed. I would still expect that the Schmidt Foster Barn has seamless gutters though.
