Questions

1. Can the septic tank be replaced with a poly tank? Yes, poly is required by drawings. See Sheet 3, Infiltrator IM-1060 specified is injection molded polypropylene construction.

2. Does the Septic system need to be priced out as a sub-surface system or a mound? It is expected that a sub-surface system will be sufficient however due to rising water levels in the Park a mound system may be needed. Is it possible to get a price for both in case a mound system is necessary?

3. Do you require as-builts for this project? Yes.

4. The drawing shows a distribution box connected to the existing tank; can a header be used instead when the new tank is installed? Yes.

5. Because the area is wet, is dewatering needed? If so, is there a place to discharge the water? Dewatering is not anticipated however, if it is necessary treatment will be required before ground surface discharge.

8. Are there any special inspection requirements other than DOH requirements? There are no special inspection requirements however, the following compliance mitigations/stipulations will be required:

Required Mitigations - For the proposed project actions to be within compliance requirements during construction and/or project implementation, the following mitigations must be adhered to:

• Prior to carrying out work, the boundary between previously disturbed and undisturbed soils and vegetation will be marked. Operation of equipment will be restricted to areas with previously disturbed soils and vegetation above existing tank, line and drainfield.

• Standard mitigation measures for eastern indigo snake File attached) will be adopted during project activities.

• Following replacement of septic system, vegetation above system components will be maintained via mowing or prescribed fire to prevent future impacts to listed species if subsequent repairs are required.

• Only clean limestone fill will be used, if required, for fill at site.

• Vegetation trimming will be minimized and only carried out to the extent necessary to replace septic system components.

• Following repairs, area will be allowed to revegetate naturally. Sod will not be used for revegetation.

NHPA Recommendations for Conditions or Stipulations:

According to the 2008 National Park Service Programmatic Agreement Section VI, if previously unidentified cultural resources are discovered during project implementation all work in that area must stop and the Superintendent, Park Archaeologist or Chief of Cultural Resources must be notified immediately. If items protected by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) are discovered during project implementation all activity must cease in the area of discovery and immediate notice made to the Superintendent, as well as the appropriate federally recognized Indian Tribes / Organizations and State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO).
