Blue Ridge Parkway Hazardous Tree Cutting 2024 Special Instructions
Due to seasonal variations in the environmental compliance regulations affecting Park resources, the following must be adhered to by the Contractor for successful completion of the required work.
1. No tree cutting work shall be performed in the time periods listed as follows:
a. Virginia - April 15th thru August 15th
b. North Carolina- May 1st thru August 15 th
c. No clearing during the month of October
2. No hazardous tree cutting work shall be performed between dusk and dawn.
3. At least 14 days prior to starting work, the Contractor shall submit a proposed schedule for hazardous tree cutting indicating what dates each site will be cut. The Park will review for compliance with timing of natural resource requirements. The Park may require revision of the schedule to meet these natural resource requirements or elimination of certain sites from the work.
4. Hazardous trees not cut completely based on Park inspection will not be paid any partial payment until completed and accepted by the Government. Acceptance requires, but is not limited to:
a. Cutting all trees to within 3 to 6 inches above the ground
5. All trees cut shall be left on site to decompose.
6. Staging and parking for vehicles, equipment and materials shall be confined to paved overlooks and parking areas. Other areas utilized shall be only as designated approved by the CO and/or
COR.
7. Traffic signage must be in place at work sites to alert drivers on Parkway of activity.
