140P5123Q0010, Amendment 0002 Questions and Answers

1. Do the boxes need to be palletized?

Answer: Doing cartons/crates is fine as long as they understand that the objects need to stay in the boxes they're currently in. But if the whole box is going into crates, that works okay

2. Question 15 – someone asked about the value of the cargo for insurance purposes.

Insurance companies will not provide coverage for a shipment without a commercial invoice, acquisition cost, or appraisal of the collection. There must be some documented basis for the valuation. Where does the valuation range of $250,000 - $1,000,000 come from? Contractors cannot recommend insurance coverage arbitrarily for a number of reasons.

Answer: These materials have significant scientific and historical value and we want to ensure that they are handled in a way that prevents any damage to the objects during transport. Therefore, our insurance valuation is based on the cost to professionally repair/conserve these objects, should they be damaged during transport. Our standard cost estimate for conservation of archeological material is $100/hour. We estimate that a conservator could repair 2 objects per hour. Since we do not have an item level inventory for this collection, we are using a standard estimate of 500 objects per box. We estimate that 15 % of the collection could be damaged during transport, which puts the insurance value at $300,000
