About this file

This document contains Questions and Answers related to a federal contract opportunity for the purchase of composite decking material. The solicitation is for the FIIS (Fire Island Inlet and Shore) project, issued by the Department of the Interior National Park Service Northeast Region.

The key details are:

  • The solicitation specifies 1" x 6" (minimum 1" x 5.4") composite decking boards in 16-foot lengths, with a total quantity of 576 pieces required.
  • The contractor has questioned whether 20-foot boards from the manufacturer, Moisture Shield, would be an acceptable alternate, as the 16-foot boards are not available.
  • There is also a question about the quantity listed in the solicitation, as it states "1 each" but the Statement of Work lists 576 pieces.

1. The below info is taken directly off of the MoistureShield website-

MoistureShield Vantage Uncapped Composite Decking

2-We require 576 pieces @ 16'. The reasoning for this is we have 5' wide boardwalks, and we get 3 pieces 5' wide with a waste piece of 11.5 inches. When cutting lumber you lose material. If we went with 20', we would get 3 pieces at 5' and the last one would be 3/8" to short so we would have 59.5 inches of waste. We also cannot move 20' material across the bay.

1. The SOW specifies:

Manufacturer:

• Moisture Shield

Board Size as being:

• 1” X 6” (minimum profile to be 1” x 5.4”)

• Length-16 feet

Moisture Shield does not make a 16-foot board. They make a 20-foot board. Is this an acceptable alternate?

2. If would please verify the quality on this solicitation because it stated 1 each but your SOW states 576 each.
