About this file

This document appears to be a set of questions and answers related to Solicitation 140L6224Q0053 for USFS Sign Posts issued by the Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management Wyoming Region.

The key details are:

  • The solicitation is for galvanized steel sign posts, with a total length of 65 inches rather than the 72 inches originally specified.
  • The posts are described as having a U-channel design, with friction lugs that are 0.5 inches wide and 0.5 inches from the bend.
  • There is some leniency on the exact dimensional specifications, as long as all posts are consistent.
  • The agency confirmed the galvanized steel material and dimensions would meet the requirements, with the exception of the overall length.
  • The document does not appear to provide a full Performance Work Statement or Statement of Objectives, but rather addresses specific clarifying questions from a potential vendor.

Questions Addressed Solicitation: 140L6224Q0053 USFS Sign Posts

1. The most difficult thing will be the “Friction Lugs” which appear to be tabs that are bent out through the metal…the cut-outs appear to be rectangular but show only one dimension on the front of 0.5” wide, however the section view C-C shows the tab to be 0.5” in length from the bend, which would mean the cut-outs would be square. I just need to confirm this to determine how we would achieve this part of the fabrication. Also, the bends along the full length appear to have a radius. Is that specified, or does it matter?

a. Yes, the friction lugs are 0.5 in. wide and 0.5 in. from the bend. A minor deviation from these dimensions would not be a problem, provided that all of the posts are the same, allowing the posts to stack together neatly. See attached photo 1a showing the friction lugs on an existing post.

b. The radius is not specified and is not critical. See attached photo 1b showing the top end of an existing post.

2. Every contact I have in this industry is saying they have never seen a spec sheet for this type of "post" I can get similar specs back but nothing that matches exactly. Is there any leniency on the required specs?

a. There is some leniency, for example, see 1a and 1b above and 3a below.

3. Would the below specifications work for this requirement?

a. We need the post to be made from galvanized steel strip, 16 gauge, and a total length of 65 ins. rather than the aluminum material and 72 ins. called out in the specs shown below. Otherwise, these specifications would work.

4. Is the requirement a square post or a U channel post?

a. I am not sure if the post design technically qualifies as U channel, but that is how I would describe it. Please refer to other responses here and photo 1b showing cross section.

5. Kindly confirm the height of the pole and how many lbs per foot.

a. The total length of the sign post is 65 ins.; I do not know the number of pounds per foot.
