Site visit attendance (04/04/2024):

1. Paul Nowak Construction

2. West Coast Contractors

Answers to questions asked at site visit:

Q1: Can we use a Dingo walk behind piece of equipment?

A1: No. See Solicitation Page 7 of 128 Description of work…“utilizing hand tools”.

Q2: Can we use a chipper or a grinder (these are larger than typical hand tools - as indicated in Contract docs)?

A2: No. See Solicitation page 7 of 128 Description of work…“utilizing hand tools”.

Q3: Does all the loose rock need to be cleared off the trail?

A3: Yes. See Solicitation page 22 of 128 in Section 201 Clearing and Grubbing…“work consists of clearing”…“loose rocks".

Q4: Is the intent of the rock clearing to get back to original grade?

A4: Yes.

Q5: Can we leave the humps in the trail as long as we maintain a trail width of 36"?

A5: No (see above Q4 and A4). The intent is to clear the loose rock back to the original grade.

Q6: Do the live trees near station 5+00 have to be cleared?

A6: No. The burned 34" Madrone near this station is to remain, and the live fir tree is to remain. The burned and dead fir tree is to be cleared. With trees in the clearing zone over 6" diameter, consult with the COR as to whether they get cleared or remain. The overall intent is keeping live trees and to remove hazard trees and trees that are already dead or imminently dying.

Q7: Does the vertical Bedrock have to be chipped in areas where the trail is less than 3' wide?

A7: No. See solicitation Section B-Bid Schedule Page 5 of 128, and Page 23 and 28 of 128, which indicates trail widening.

Q8: Does the 6" madrone near station 11+00 need to be cleared?

A8: No.

Page 2 of 3Rainie Falls Trail Clearing, Josephine County, Oregon BLM-Medford District Office

Q9: Does the 10" madrone near station 14+00 with a large branch over the trail need to be cleared?

A9: No.

Q10: Does the wall at station 12+30 need to be replaced in kind, or replaced with the type of walls that are indicated in the plans.

A10: Replace wall at 12+30 with a type of wall that is indicated in the plans (pages 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, and 124 of 128) and specifications (section 204, 209, 253, and 717).

Q11: If there is existing bedrock poking up through the trail (such as 8" pointy rock near station 14+00) - does that need to be chipped down to be even with the trail?

A11: No. Solicitation page 22 of 128 only indicates removal of loose rock.
