About this file
This document is a Salient Characteristics file detailing requirements for two Remote Control Systems for Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP's) from Teledyne RD Instruments. The document specifies two distinct remote control system kits: one for the StreamPro ADCP and another for the RiverRay/RiverPro ADCP. Both kits must convert ADCP flotation devices into remote-controlled, unmanned surface vehicle (USV) systems with specific performance requirements including propulsion systems, communication modules, hand-held remote controls, and rechargeable batteries.
Key technical specifications include communication ranges of at least 300 ft using 2.4 GHz transmitters, battery run-times of 1.5 continuous hours at cruising speed, and specific operating speeds (StreamPro: maximum 5.0 ft/sec, cruise 3 ft/sec; RiverRay/RiverPro: maximum 9.5 ft/sec, cruise 4.5 ft/sec). The kits must include mounting hardware, cabling, ruggedized transport cases, and require no special tools or modifications to ADCP floats. The associated federal contract opportunity is a small business set-aside solicitation (RFQ 140G0125Q0150) issued by the US Geological Survey, with quotes due on 7/2/2025 and an anticipated contract award date of 8/01/2025.

Remote Control Systems for Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP’s)
SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS:
1 ea. Remote Control System for Teledyne RD Instruments StreamPro Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler
(ADCP’s):
1. Shall consist of a kit that allows ADCP flotation devices to be converted to a remote controlled, unmanned surface vehicle (USV) system.
2. The kit shall be compatible with the Teledyne RD Instruments StreamPro ADCP.
3. The kit, at a minimum, shall include a propulsion system (thrusters), a communication/power module with cable connections to thrusters, a hand-held remote control, rechargeable batteries/charger(s) for each ADCP, mounting hardware, and cabling.
4. When converted, the ADCP shall be capable of the following remotely controlled operating speeds:
- maximum speed of least 5.0 ft./sec. and cruise speed of at least 3 ft/sec.
5. Remote control shall be hand-held and include a display and joystick.
6. System shall include a 2.4 GHz transmitter with a communication range of at least 300 ft.
7. Shall be capable of operating from rechargeable battery packs capable of powering the unit for at least
1.5 hours of continuous run-time at cruising speed.
8. Shall not require any special tools, adapters, or modifications to the ADCP float, for assembly.
9. Shall include ruggedized, shockproof, case(s) for transporting all conversion kit components.
1 ea. Remote Control System for Teledyne RD Instruments RiverRay/RiverPro (RR/RP) ADCP’s:
10. Shall consist of a kit that allows ADCP flotation devices to be converted to a remote controlled, unmanned surface vehicle (USV) system.
11. The kit shall be compatible with the Teledyne RD Instruments River Ray/RiverPro ADCP’s.
12. The kit, at a minimum, shall include a propulsion system (thrusters), a communication/power module, a hand-held remote control, rechargeable batteries/charger(s) for each ADCP, mounting hardware, and cabling.
13. When converted, the ADCP’s shall be capable of the following remotely controlled operating speeds:
- maximum speed of at least 9.5 ft./sec. and cruise speed of at least 4.5 ft/sec.
14. Remote control shall be hand-held and include a display and joystick.
15. System shall include a 2.4 GHz transmitter with a communication range of at least 300 ft.
16. Both versions shall be capable of operating from rechargeable battery packs capable of powering the unit for at least 1.5 hours of continuous run-time at cruising speed.
17. Shall not require any special tools, adapters, or modifications to the ADCP float, for assembly.
18. Shall include ruggedized, shockproof, case(s) for transporting all conversion kit components.
