About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for RFQ 140G0125Q0083, detailing technical specifications for a density meter procurement by the US Geological Survey's Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center. The meter will be used to measure density of water/sediment slurry pumped from a river, with specific technical requirements including a maximum fluid density of 2.5 gm/ml, process temperature not exceeding 30 degrees C, and a 3/8 inch pipe connection.

The related federal contract opportunity involves purchasing (1) density meter and (1) associated transmitter for installation in Flagstaff, AZ. Key procurement details include a solicitation release date of 03/07/2025, quote submission deadline of 03/13/2025, anticipated contract award date of 3/17/2025, and a 21-day delivery timeline after order receipt. The procurement falls under NAICS code 334513 with a size standard of 750 employees, and vendors must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) to be eligible. Quotes may be submitted via email to rlanderson@usgs.gov.

Questions and Answers

1. Please provide us with more information on the application you will be using this meter for, using the attachment, so that we can ensure you get the correct customizations. – We will be using the density meter to measure the density of water/sediment slurry pumped from a river. The density will be used as a proxy for sediment concentration.

2. To properly configure an inline density flow meter for this application, we would need some additional information.

a. Maximum and minimum flow rate of the slurry/water stream-not known, need to keep sand size particles in suspension.

b. Maximum density of the fluid-2.5 gm/ml, sediment slurry can be up to almost 50% sediment by volume Maximum process temperature - Temperature will not exceed ~30 degrees C.

c. Maximum process pressure-pumping up from a river to a bridge ~20 feet above the water surface

d. Viscosity (if known) -unknown

e. Process connection requirement (NPT, Flange, Tri-clamp or other?) and line size-3/8 inch

f. Explosion proof rating if required -Not required

g. Transmitter output communication requirement (HART/Analog, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus PA or Modbus RTU) – not known, need to record output data on a windows field computer

3. Fluid Type – Water and sediment slurry

4. Pipe size and thickness – 3/8 inch pipe leading to larger pumping tube, thickness not known

5. Direct or Remote Mount- will be mounted on a mobile platform

6. Process Temperature - Temperature will not exceed ~30 degrees C.

7. Process connection type (e.g., flange, threaded, tri-clamp) – This depends on part numbers used on quote.

8. Power and output preferences (e.g., 4-20mA, HART, Modbus)- This depends on part numbers used on quote.

9. Will you want a separate transmitter/display for the flow rate so you can see density and flow information simultaneously? – need to record data on a computer, we would use the graphics on the computer
