About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding inspection and acceptance criteria for a Raman imaging system solicitation. The solicitation seeks demonstration of spatial and spectral resolution using carbon nanotubes, graphene, and a wide band fixed scrambler spanning 230nm to 2500nm. There are no specific resolution requirements, as the tests will establish the actual resolution achieved. Clarification was provided that the scrambler requested under CLIN 0003 is intended to cancel out polarization errors across the entire spectrum. The related federal contract opportunity is for a Raman imaging system issued by the Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology under solicitation number 1333ND21QNB680418.

Questions and Answers
Question # 1: Inspection and Acceptance Criteria - Use carbon nanotube to demonstration XY spatial resolution at each laser wavelength. What kind of spatial resolution needs to be achieved?
NIST Answer: There is no specific resolution needed, this test will tell NIST what the resolution actually is as it just shows the resolution. This is possible because the size of the nanotube is far below the resolution.
Question # 2: Inspection and Acceptance Criteria - Use suspended graphene to determine Z spatial resolution at each laser wavelength. What kind of spatial resolution needs to be achieved for each laser?
NIST Answer: There is no specific resolution needed, this test will tell NIST what the resolution actually is as it just shows the resolution. This is possible because the size of the single atomic layer of carbon atoms is far below the resolution.
Question # 3: Inspection and Acceptance Criteria - Demonstrate best spectral resolution using single objective and laser combination. What kind of spectral resolution needs to be achieved?
NIST Answer: There is no specific resolution needed, this test will tell NIST what the resolution actually is as it just shows the resolution. This is the demonstrate the best case scenario.
Question # 3: CLIN 0003: Specification E. for Wide band fixed scrambler 230 nm –2500 nm. Can you please provide further explanation what is included in this request that is part of CLIN 0003?
NIST Answer: A scrambler is used to cancel out errors caused by polarization effects by scrambling the polarization of the laser and scattering. We seek one that spans the entire range of the spectrum, i.e. one that is wide band.
