STATEMENT OF WORK
TITLE: He-3 300 mK cryostat with 10 T superconducting magnet in LHe (compatible with a 10 T System)
I. Background The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Engineering Physics Division (EPD) provides leadership in conducting research in the areas of dimensional, nanometer-scale, solid state silicon quantum devices for Quantum Information processing and Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) technology; and nanoelectronics.
The atom-based laboratory is developing atomic scale devices based on atomically precise hydrogen lithography and selective dopant placement on large atomically flat Si (100) 2x1 reconstruction surface for both device purposes and atomic scale materials properties evaluation. Low temperature epitaxial SI overgrowth on doped Si surface is used to encapsulate devices for post UHV measurement of atomic scale 3D quantum structures. Transport measurement of atomically precise degenerately doped Phosphorus nanostructures in Si is essential to process control, device design, and materials development.
The atom-based devices project needs to procure a 300 mK low temperature, high magnetic field cryostat to facilitate measurement of atom-scale devices and related quantum properties. The system must provide a 10 T magnetic field at the sample and allowing base, unloaded sample measurement temperatures down to 300 mK via the use of liquid He3 and He4 low temperature cooling methods.
