Project Overview Minnesota State is requesting proposals to assist in developing build, outfit, and ship a custom mobile welding trailer, to be utilized in remote areas of Northern Minnesota to teach a full welding diploma. We desire the custom build of a trailer to meet our needs and fit our curriculum. Delivery and trailer wraps must be included in the proposal.
Technical/Functional Requirements
53ft x 8.5ft x 13.6ft (semi trailer), 48” side door entrance, ADA compliant (prefer a lift), storage below trailer, overhead lighting throughout trailer and in each welding station, heat and AC suitable for Minnesota weather with tied in air exchange system capable of handling 10 welding booths, insulated for Minnesota weather, shore power (needs to be able to be plugged in and heating all winter to a low temperature) prefer the ability to run whole trailer on shore power or generator, non-slip easy clean flooring, noise reducing walls, trailer wrap design and installation. The trailer needs to be DOT inspected and report given at the time of delivery. At the time of delivery, we also request a walk through of the trailer and how to use everything on the trailer. The proposed solution must comply with current national accessibility standards.
We will be running this trailer all year round. This means it needs the ability to stay warm in temperatures as low as 0 degrees and as high as 90 degree. We do not want ventilation that requires having a window or door cracked open.
Please do not include extras in your bid such as: brooms, anti fatigue mats, extra storage, etc.
General Requirements
1 cutting and grinding booth with downdraft table and replaceable cutting top, air pressure line in cutting and grinding booth, power outlet, dry pressurized air, and mounting location to accommodate a Hypertherm Powermax 45 XP plasma cutter all to be included in the bid.
Space designated for dry rod oven. We currently have a the Phoenix 1205520 Dryrod II Type 5 Portable Electrode Oven with Wheels that will be using inside the trailer. The dimensions of this rod oven are (W x D x H) 14 1/8" x 16 3/8" x 27 1/8".
8-10 welding booths at 60” wide with ¾ walls between stations and welding curtains at the entrance with the following inside each station: flexible arm fume extractor system in each booth, welders mounted overhead with easy accessibility at a slight downward angle for better lead positioning and control panel access, weld positioners with small table (12" x 16" in size) that are adjustable to accommodate welding at a sitting, standing or overhead position, small shelf to hold process related tools (electrodes and other hand tools), gas lines for argon and mixed gas, additional 120V 20A outlet that is sealed.
Outdoor welding space with the ability to plug into welding leads and pressurized air through an access door. Access door should allow for the ability to adjust the setting of the welder and attach leads (we plan to do carbon arc cutting air in this location, we have a Miller XMT 350 that will be used for all process including carbon arc cutting outside). The access door and internal welding booth for the Miller XMT 350 needs to be located next to the side entrance door to aid with machine setup and operation (we plan to do carbon arc cutting outside). This welder will be used in an internal booth as well as externally. We want the ability to keep the welder in the internal station and still connect to it in this external booth without moving it.
Generator:
Generator needs to be a minimum of 150KW 200 Amp 3 phase diesel generator. The generator can be on the trailer or on a separate trailer. Shore power needs to be 480 3 phase.
Description
Other necessary items/areas to include: storage area for gas cylinders (prefer to be able to have: active oxygen and fuel gas cylinders in the grinding/cutting booth, one spare oxygen cylinder stored in trailer, and 2 bottle manifold system for argon and argon mix), smaller storage area inside for basic welding tools (grinders, drill, wrench, etc.), space to plug in a small electrode oven. We currently have the Phoenix 1205520 Dryrod II Type 5 Portable Electrode Oven with Wheels that will be using inside the trailer. The dimensions of this rod oven are (W x D x H) 14 1/8" x 16 3/8" x 27 1/8".
Welders:
Welders to be included with the trailer at delivery: All stations, other than station hooked up for outdoor welding, need to have Millermatic 355 and Dynasty 210. These need to be included with the bid. The outdoor station needs to have hookups for the Miller XMT 350 and feeder head but DO NOT include this welder in your bid, we will provide and install this ourselves. This welder was choose specifically to meet the needs of our program and we will not consider other welders.
Budget The budget for this contract is anticipated to be $808,000. Please be sure all costs associated with the trailer are included. This budget is a strict budget.
