About this file
This document outlines the technical specifications for an ultrafast pump-probe laser system procurement. The system requires two Ti:Sapphire ultrafast oscillators on a common breadboard capable of wavelengths between 750-850nm with tunability. Pulse widths must be less than 30fs at 800nm with power stability under 1% over 8 hours. Additional requirements include electronics, diagnostics, and integration to synchronize the lasers with an offset of 1-20kHz. Repetition rate stabilization is necessary to reduce timing jitter below 150fs. The contractor must demonstrate experience designing similar systems and provide a one year warranty on installation and training by the Department of the Navy Office of Naval Research.

Ultrafast pump-probe laser system
Description: Code 6883 has a requirement for a commercially available system that consists of two ultrafast lasers with an electronics package for synchronization, in order to preform ultrafast spectroscopy of thin film samples. The synchronization timing will be performed using a technique known as asynchronous optical sampling (or equivalent technology), where the repetition rate of the pump laser will be dynamically tuned to match that of the probe laser with a frequency offset that is adjustable in the range 1-20 kHz or wider. The system will be fully integrated with the pump laser and both ultrafast oscillators mounted on a common breadboard.
Specific Requirements:
• The contractor must have a demonstrated ability to design, fabricate, and install similar laser systems.
• Ti:Sapphire ultrafast lasers: Fully engineered and integrated oscillator with water-cooled and temperature controlled breadboard and Ti:Sapphire crystal.
• Center Wavelength: ~ 800 nm
• Tunable wavelength range of approximately: 750 - 850 nm
• Pulse width: < 30 fs (fixed center wavelength at 800nm).
• Average power: > 550 mW
• Repetition Rate: 80 MHz or greater (up to 1 GHz acceptable)
• Maximum bandwidth: > 70 nm FWHM; Minimum bandwidth: < 25 nm FWHM.
• Power stability: < 1 % RMS over 8 hours after warm-up and +/- 0.5 C room temperature stability.
• Pump laser: integrated 5W laser with chiller.
• Software control of pulse width and center wavelength.
• Both lasers will be mechanically built onto a common breadboard
• The repetition rate of the pump laser will be dynamically tuned to match that of the probe laser with a frequency offset that is adjustable in the range of 1-20 kHz or wider
• Repetition Rate Stabilization electronics will provide a choice of synchronizing the repetition rate of the pump laser to another laser source (probe oscillator) or an external signal generator. The locking electronics should reduce timing jitter to < 150 fs
• Diagnostics electronics for at least one laser: includes a spectrometer, large-area photodiode power monitor, pickoff window and mounts for monitoring the output of oscillator.
Electronics Package should include:
– Oscillator Controller box housing a stepper motor controller and pulse-train RF amplification circuitry.
– Stepper motors and adapters for prism translation stages.
– Mounted photodiode compatible with oscillator controller for monitoring oscillator pulse-train.
– A system for generating trigger pulses that mark pump-probe temporal coincidence, based on a two-photon detector.
– Laptop control computer with pre-installed software and drivers for controlling prism motors.
• The system can be readily moved to a new optical table or optical setup
• The contractor must provide a warranty on the entire system for at least 1 year
• The contractor must provide on-site installation and training
