Solicitation No. 1284LM23Q0014 GAOA Trail Clearing
Questions and Answers
1. To begin work, will the contracted personal working on the trails be required to hold a current government chainsaw endorsement of any kind?
Forest Service saw certifications are not a requirement for contractors.
2. Is the use of a Dirtbike, E-bike, or regular bicycle permitted on any of the trails? If so, which?
Refer to the district Motor Vehicle Use Maps for information on where bikes, eBikes, and dirt bikes are permitted.
3. Is there a way to gain knowledge of water sources near the trails beyond mapping imagery? If so- where are they located? How numerous are they?
We don’t have this information available.
4. My mapping app measures the Whitefish Divide trail from Red Meadow Lake to Ralph Thayer Memorial Trailhead at a total distance of approximately 33.4 miles. The map from the solicitation has this portion measured at 18.4 miles. There is a 21.8-mile section from Red Meadow Lake to Haines Pass and then from Haines Pass to Ralph Thayer Trailhead is another
11.6 miles. Could you please clarify?
Looking at the map, the trail travels through 16-17 sections which matches well with the published mileage of 18.4 miles.
5. Was wondering if dirt bikes would be allowed to be used for moving workers and chainsaws on this project?
One of the trails DOES allow motorized use: Jimmy Ridge #297 does allow year-round motorcycle use. The other 3, Whitefish Divide #26, Haines Pass #6, and Pioneer Ridge #71 do not allow motorcycle access.
