SECTION 011000
SUMMARY OF WORK
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Description: This scope of work includes, but is not limited to, construction of approximately 650 LF of directionally-bored 2” HDPE waterline, construction of one (1) water manhole, two (2) concrete valve boxes, connection appurtenances, pressure testing and disinfection of the newly constructed water line, associated pavement patching, and temporary traffic control, including temporary Traffic Control Plan. The new water line will primarily follow the AZ Hwy 180 ROW, and will require one under-highway crossing, connecting into an existing water system on both ends.
Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, and other incidentals necessary to successfully complete the project or any portion of it, and carrying out all duties and obligations imposed by the contract on the Contractor.
After contract award, the Contractor shall submit their Boring Plan (see Supplemental Specifications), ADOT proof of insurance (see Attachment 5 for insurance requirements), and Traffic Control Plan, for approval and subsequent incorporation into the USFS’ Encroachment Permit Application. USFS will be responsible for processing the permit application.
Construction specifications shall be the Standard Specifications for Construction of Roads and Bridges on Federal Highway Projects, FP-03, U.S. Customary Units, or as amended by these specifications.
Item 604(02) – Construct 48” Concrete Manhole
Work shall include construction of precast concrete manholes, including all appurtenances as necessary, such as ladder rungs and metal lids. Backfilling, and pavement patching of the bore hole in the Chimney Springs roadway shall be incidental to this bid item. Pavement patching, including any aggregate base materials shall match that of the existing conditions.
Item 604(xx) – Construct 24” x 36” Concrete Traffic Valve Box
Work shall include construction of precast concrete traffic valve boxes, including all appurtenances as necessary, such as ladder rungs and metal lids. Backfilling shall be considered incidental to this bid item.
Item 611(02) – Construct 2” HDPE Waterline
Work shall include construction of directionally-bored waterline, connection appurtenances, valves, gauges, etc., pressure testing, and disinfection of newly constructed waterline.
Item 635(01) – Temporary Traffic Control
Work shall include design of the Traffic Control Plan, furnishing all signs, barriers, drums, etc., necessary for the implementation of the approved Traffic Control Plan. The Traffic Control Plan must be approved by the USFS and ADOT in advance of project initiation, through the Encroachment Permit Application process. All temporary traffic control shall be in accordance with the latest MUTCD regulations, and any applicable Arizona MUTCD revisions.
1.2 LOCATION
A. This project is located at the intersections of Chimney Springs Trail and US Hwy 180, northwest of Flagstaff, AZ. The legal description is SW 1/4 of Section 23, Township 22N, Range 6E in Coconino County, Arizona.
In Flagstaff, exit north from South Milton Road/Route 66 onto Highway 180 (Humphreys Street) and follow State Highway 180 7.3 miles north to mile post 223.
1.3 GENERAL SITE CONDITIONS AND WEATHER
A. The elevation of the site is approximately 7,000 feet above mean sea level. The construction site is accessible from April through October.
1.4 USE OF PREMISES
A. General: Contractor shall only have use of the local project area highway ROW for construction operations, during the construction period. Contractor's use of premises is limited by the Government's right to perform work in the project area, and to ensure vehicular access to residents that live along AZ Hwy 180, and/or Chimney Springs Trail.
B. Contractor shall at all times conduct his operations to ensure the least inconvenience to the public.
C. Confine storage of materials to areas as approved by the CO.
D. Contractor shall provide adequate signing and barricades and take necessary safety measures to protect the public during all construction operations. Contractor shall minimize disturbance of all undisturbed areas.
E. Preservation of Natural Features: Confines all operations to work limits of the project.
Prevent damage to natural surroundings. Restore damaged areas, repairing or replacing damaged trees and plants, at no additional expense to the Government.
1. Provide temporary barriers to protect existing trees and plants and root zones.
2. Do not remove, injure, or destroy trees or other plants without prior approval. Consult with CO and remove agreed-on roots and branches that interfere with construction.
3. Do not fasten ropes, cables, or guys to existing trees.
4. Carefully supervise excavating, grading, filling, and other construction operations near trees to prevent damage.
F. Existing Utilities:
1. Contractor shall be responsible for locating and preventing damage to known utilities.
If damage occurs, the Contractor shall repair the utility at no additional expense to the Government.
2. Interruption of Existing Utility Service: Notify CO, 48 hours in advance of any interruption of existing utilities. Contractor shall coordinate with existing utilities for locates, or in the event any interruptions of services are required.

1.7 CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE
A. There is no specified construction sequence or season for this project.
B. Depending on conditions, normal fire restrictions may apply to activities associated with this project.
1.8 FIELD VERIFICATION
A. Field verify all new and existing dimensions affecting the work of this contract before ordering products.
1.9 PERMITS
A. Any permits required by County, State, or Federal laws or regulations shall be obtained by the Contractor.
