Version 1: 07/27/2022
Q1: “In your description of work you state that you want to fracture the soil to a depth of 18" but you don't want to disrupt the very top layer of topsoil. Is this a typo or do you really want us to fluff the soil without breaking the outer crust? Because in my mind, the best way to disturb this soil would be with either a brush rake or rippers on a dozer. But in order to do that, I would have to disturb the outermost layer of soil.”
A1: “Ripping to 18” depth using a ripper on a dozer or other similar tow-behind ripping device will be the method for this work to be accomplished. This is not something that could be done using an excavator or similar, since the key point is to break up the topsoil to decompact it, without overturning or inverting the soil profile. Basically we don’t want to flip the “layer cake” of soil upside down, just rip through the top 18.”
