MOWING ACREAGES SHOWN ON THE MAPS ARE APPROXIMATE.
1.2 Background
The Wayne National Forest Headquarters site is approximately 3.5 +/- acres that needs to be mowed and weed trimmed on an as needed basis. Historically, the area has been mowed weekly. Of the 3.5 acres, approximately 0.5 acres is an existing septic leach field. The septic leach field area has not been mowed in the past and will initially need a mower capable of mowing tall weeds and small woody vegetation. Heavy tractors and brush mowers will not be permitted due to possible damage to the leach field. Self-propelled, walk behind mowers are suitable.
The Nelsonville Warehouse site is approximately 0.5 +/- acres that also needs mowed and weed trimmed on an as needed basis. Historically, the area has been mowed weekly. The Nelsonville Warehouse site has a chain link fence around the perimeter and a small stream that shall be weed trimmed at each mowing. No mowing or weed trimming inside the perimeter fence. The small stream area has not been mowed in the past and will initially need heavy brush and weed trimming with handheld equipment capable of mowing tall weeds and cattails.
Both sites have trees and experience leaf litter as well as occasional tree limbs and branches falling to the ground.
1.3 Objectives
The primary objective is to keep the Wayne National Forest Headquarters site and the Nelsonville Warehouse site mowed and weed trimmed during the growing seasons and cleared of leaf litter, fallen tree branches, or other debris of any kind. All work shall meet industry standards for groundskeeping best management practices.
Mow the areas within the boundaries illustrated on the maps included in Appendix A.
Weed trim around all objects and structures within the boundaries illustrated on the maps included in Appendix A, while avoiding damage to existing structures.
Clean off sidewalks, structures, and parking lots of any grass clippings and leaf litter.
1.4 Location and Description
The Wayne National Forest Headquarters site is located at the address 13700 US Hwy 33 Nelsonville, OH 45764.
The Nelsonville Warehouse site is located at the address 1324 E Canal Street Nelsonville, OH 45764.
See the location and directions map in Appendix A.
1.5 Technical Specifications
The Contractor and its representatives must always maintain a neat and orderly appearance and carry themselves in a professional manner while performing work on National Forest property.
The mowing and trimming will be performed in those areas illustrated on the site maps in Appendix A.
The contractor is responsible for all initial site preparation needed; this may include removing litter, tree branches and other debris before each mowing. No litter shall be driven over by any cutting device. All litter shall be removed from the site. Any tree limbs are to be dispersed evenly into the surrounding wooded areas or at designated disposal areas on the site.
All grass shall be kept at a height of 2-4 inches. “Scalping” of the grass will not be permitted. The number of mowings may vary depending upon growing conditions, weather, etc.
All work will be performed between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. No work is to be performed on weekends or holidays. Working hours outside of the required time frame are allowed but must be approved by the Contracting Officer.
The entire mowing and trimming process shall be completed within one day for the sites unless weather prevents the completion within that timeframe.
All areas shall be mowed and trimmed in a manner that will not, in any way, damage live trees, structures, signs, posts, or any Forest Service property located within the designated area. The contractor is responsible for all damage incurred to Forest Service grounds, structures, trees, vehicles, or property of the public as a result of the services performed.
Grass clippings and leaf litter shall be swept, blown, or removed from sidewalks, parking lots, and structures.
Trimmed areas shall maintain the same grass height as the surrounding mowed areas to maintain a neat continuous appearance. Trimming shall be performed around structures, trees, curbs, posts, rock barriers, walkways, and along a section of the stream at the Nelsonville Warehouse site.
The contractor may choose to use mulching blades on mowers; however, all excessive mowed clippings shall be removed from the site on the same day.
Equipment, materials, tools, etc. shall be confined so as not to unduly encumber the premises and no equipment shall be left on the premises once services have been performed.
