Questions and Answers
1240LP23Q0045, MBRNF CONT CZ Site Preparation
1. Is it possible to receive shapefiles/GIS data?
Answer 1: Yes, Available upon request to CO and will be emailed individually.
2. When it’s asking for- (3) mechanically knocking down brush and/or slash, (4) mechanically cutting small, diseased, or poorly formed pine, and treating slash, there is no estimates about how much of this is to be done. There is a description of the piling- 4.2.1 Piling (a) It is expected that 70-80% of the GR unit’s ground slash is to be piled. (b) It is expected that 50-70-% of the DH and OH unit’s ground slash is to be piled. My question is outside of the piling how much mechanical cutting and brush beating is to be done? Is it the remaining 20-30% and 50-30% outside of the piling that needs to be mechanically cut and knocked down?
Answer 2: This will take place throughout the whole unit in the past the operator has just run over the trees with their dozer and has worked well but it will be up to the contractor with how they want to accomplish it. Looking at the data I have on most of the units it looks like it will be less than 20 tree per acre with some of the units not having much to mechanically knock down or cut.
3. In regard to the trees that are to be cut and removed as stated in the scope of work, are those trees to be removed from site or to be piled with the rest of the treated slash?
Answer 3: trees are to be treated the same as slash and since there will be smaller diameter and live trees I would prefer them not to be piled and be part of the percentage of slash to be left but it will ultimately up to the contractor if they want to pile them or leave them on the ground.
4. Will there be a site visit?
Answer 4: With the timing of another contract, we have going on I don’t think we would be able to host site visit. The project areas should be accessible by the middle to end of May depending on late snow fall the contractors are more than welcome to request maps and go and look at the areas themselves.
