SCOPE OF WORK
Fire-produced disturbances directly favor colonization of new and survived noxious weeds. Early detection and treatment of small noxious weed patches in a burned area is crucial to prevent or mitigate establishment of noxious weeds, and to establish or maintain healthy plant communities. If noxious weed infestations are allowed to become large-scale, the infestations can persist and become very difficult and expensive to manage. Also, since the seeds from noxious weeds can remain viable in the soil for several years it is critical that burned and adjacent areas be surveyed for noxious weeds and treated for several years post fire.
This work consists of noxious weed management and treatment during the growing season through the use of chemical control on the Mountain Home Ranger District specifically within known and discovered weed infestations. See attached maps for identification & site information. Any Idaho State listed noxious weed population found within the treatment areas may be treated. However, in the event available funding will not allow for treatment of all known or discovered infestations, priority will be given to Idaho State listed species that are of particular local concern, specifically, spotted knapweed, diffuse knapweed, rush skeleton weed, white top, yellow toadflax, field bindweed, dalmation toadflax, leafy spurge, hoary alyssum, puncturevine and/or hounds tongue.
Additionally, a global positioning unit (GPS) will be used (provided by the contractor) to record areas of treatment by species. New infestations encountered will be inventoried using GPS, and then treated according to the specifications.
The contractor will provide transportation, supervision, labor, operating supplies, appropriate herbicide as specified below, sufficient amounts of dye, surfactant, and incidentals.
LOCATION OF PROJECT
The five vicinity maps show the overall project area. Within that project area, there are approximately 470 acres of known noxious weeds. We are requesting treatment of approximately 400-600 acres. Attached site maps identify the treatment areas & approximate acres to be treated, based on known locations. A written description of the general area is provided below, as well as attached maps showing boundaries of areas to be surveyed, GPS and treated. Driving instructions to the general treatment areas are also provided below.
PROJECT DETAILS
A. Trinity Ridge Fire Area Since this area was burned and contains highly disturbed soils, it is important to get a good early detection and eradication plan in motion to further prevent the spread of noxious weed infestations. Thus, treatment within this area will take place over a three year period. Approximately 210 acres will be treated in 2018, in 2019 and again in 2020.
This treatment area includes approximately 210 acres of noxious weeds located at various locations along Trinity Creek Forest Service road 172 and Spring Creek Forest Service road 170, Green Creek Trail area, Pine Bridge/Pine Airport areas, Meadow Creek, Fall Creek and Sheldon Creek areas. There are approximately 38 acres of rush skeleton weed, 3 acres of spotted knapweed and 1 acre of diffuse knapweed in the Trinity Creek and Spring Creek areas. There is approximately 2 acres of Leafy Spurge along FS road 061X on the back side of the South Fork of the Boise River across from the Casey Ranch near the Green Creek Trailhead. Infestations sites located along Green Creek Trail number 270 total about 8 acres. There
120226118R0003 SOUTH ZONE NOXIOUS WEED PROJECT Page 12 of 64 are about 47 acres of weeds (including leafy spurge and rush skeleton weed) located on the east and west sides of Pine Bridge and on the west side of Anderson Ranch Dam near Pine airport. Approximately 31 acres of leafy spurge is located at the junction of the Meadow Creek road and Fall Creek road. Along Fall Creek road where Sheldon Creek comes in from the east is a leafy spurge site consisting of approximately 30 acres. Continue north along Forest Service Road 129 (Fall Creek Road) to Forest Service trail 125 junction is approximately 50 acres of rush skeleton weed/leafy spurge for road side treatment. Isolated patches of other weed species may also be present at the described locations. Infestation sites vary from .1 acres to 30 acres and vary in density from low to high. Treatment of this area is completed 80% using an ATV/or Pickup with mounted spray tank and 20% using a backpack sprayer. Two sites will be limited to hiking or using livestock (horses, mules, goats etc.). The first site is located going up Green Creek Trail number 270 (the first mile of trail) and the second site is at Sheldon Creek and is about a 2.5 mile hike in.
B. South Fork Boise River Corridor below/above Anderson Ranch Dam:
This treatment area includes approximately 260 acres of noxious weeds located at various locations below Anderson Ranch Dam along the South Fork Boise River to Danskin Bridge, also Wilson Flat Trail system and from Elk Creek boat launch to Fall Creek.
