2.2.1.2 Hydrostatic Proof Test. The tests may be conducted at the contractor's facilities or at an independent laboratory or commercial testing facility. The contractor shall conduct proof hydrostatic testing of hose assemblies per the following:

P-1: Proof test the hose assemblies with fresh water to a minimum of 400 psi. Hold the test pressure for a minimum of 60 seconds and a maximum of 5 minutes.

P-2: Draw a circumferential reference line around the hose, next to each end fitting.

Measure and record the distance from the reference line to the fitting edge at four places approximately 90 degrees apart.

P-3: Attach test fitting or adapter, as necessary.

P-4: Once test pressure has been applied and held for the minimum specified time, visually inspect hose assemblies for the following:

A. Any leaks or signs of weakness, B. Any twisting of the hose, C. Any deterioration, deformation, or other damage.

Any of the above is cause for rejection of the hose assembly. Drops in test pressure during the hold period should be thoroughly investigated to determine whether the pressure drop is due to hose leakage (unacceptable) or due to test equipment leakage.

P-5: Upon completion of test, measure the distance from reference line to fittings and compare to measurements obtained in paragraph P-2. Any change in measurement from those obtained in paragraph P-2 is cause for rejection.

P-6: Label each hose assembly tested per this section with a permanent tag which includes the following information as a minimum:

A. Hydrostatic Proof Test Pressure:

B. Date of Test:

C. Manufacturer Name and Part Number:

D. Minimum Bend Radius Specified by Manufacturer (INCHES):

2.2.2 Cleanliness Requirements. The contractor shall maintain cleanliness of hose assemblies per the following:

Parts shall be cleaned by any process or combination of processes which will accomplish thorough cleaning without damage to the part(s). Surfaces shall be examined visually to determine freedom from dirt, corrosion, oil, flux, grease or foreign residue. Preservatives shall not be used on part(s) which are vulnerable to damage by contact preservatives.

Mercury containing compounds shall not be intentionally added or come into direct contact with hose assemblies.

The inner tube surface area shall be visually examined to the maximum extent possible from each end.

2.2.3 Tagging. The contractor shall tag hose assemblies per the following:

Hose assembly tags shall be wired securely at each end connection.

A copy of the documentation required to ensure the proof test has been performed shall be physically attached to each hose assembly prior to shipment. Documentation shall be securely attached to the hose by means of a nylon/metal retainer and properly sealed in a plastic envelope.

2.2.4 Preparation for Delivery. The contractor shall package the hose assemblies per the following:

Transfer hoses must be carefully handled and protected to prevent damage.

Hoses must not be sharply bent, kinked, twisted, stretched, dropped, scraped, or otherwise abused. Hoses and hose end fittings must be adequately supported during handling and rigging so that the weight does not bend the hose where it enters the end fittings.

Units to be shipped must be free of loose particles, dirt, grease, oil, etc. with ends capped to prevent dirt from entering. The hose assemblies shall be packaged per commercial standard in a manner that does not violate the minimum bend radius specified by the manufacturer as indicated on each hose assembly tag. The hose assemblies shall be packaged in a manner that prevents the hose assemblies from being damaged during shipment and prevents the hose assemblies from being wet and exposed to the elements.

2.3 Certificate of Compliance (COC). The contractor shall provide a COC to confirm all design, performance, drawing and test specifications required by this contract have been met.
