| Description of Item or Service: This requirement is for Shore Based Spares (SBS) material for the T-AKE Class Inboard Shaft Seal Seat spares. The class currently does not have spares available for the inboard mechanical seal. |
The associated OEM part numbers include: H74985-02/6
| Specific Characteristics of Material or Service: Defense Maritime Solutions, Inc. (DMS), formerly known as Wartsila Defense, Inc., is the OEM and sole provider for this material. The forward T-AKE shaft seal seat assembly must maintain size, shape and critical circumferential tolerances after machining and submersion in water. The hardware and components are specifically designed to maintain a consistent lubricity throughout a varying range of water temperatures. Any deviations from using non-OEM material and labor will not be compatible in form, fit, or function and may result in personal injury or equipment failure and damage. Proper refurbishment and maintenance is critical to safe operation of MSC T-AKE vessels. | |
| Patent or Copyright Info: DMS is the OEM for shaft seals on MSC T-AKE vessels and owns the proprietary rights to drawings, technical manuals, and design information related to the system. This information is not available to anyone outside of DMS. This information is required to provide the required repair parts and and perform repairs and certification of the system. | |
| Direct Replacement Parts: These are direct replacement parts. The shaft seals are designed and manufactured using the OEM specifications. Therefore, these materials shall not require any modifications to the fit and function as designed. Equipment standardization is required on board MSC T-AKE vessels. Any other OEM material will cause the already existing system to become inoperable. | |
| Other Info: The T-AKE Shaft Seals are considered critical equipment. Failure of the system would pose a hazard to the ship and crew by not providing proper propulsion capability. | |
