DWR is able to furnish data as authorized by Section 228 of the Water Code of California, which provides for the gathering and correlation of information and data pertinent to the annual forecasts of seasonal water crops, including the making of snow surveys and to coordinate with Federal agencies and others in performing such work and obtaining such data. The DWR Snow Surveys Section is responsible for the California Snow Surveys Cooperative Program (CSSCP) which includes support from Reclamation and some 40 plus other agencies. Reclamation has a direct need for this information, as reservoir operations are dependent upon meaningful and accurate water supply forecasts.
