EXPERIMENTAL GAP-CAVITY SUPPORT BOEING/AFOSR MACH-6 QUIET TUNNEL TESTING STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)

1.0 BACKGROUND

Research is needed to characterize the response and flow dynamics around a body where a structural failure has occurred. This work expands upon previous test plan developed. The research envisioned here characterizes the failure as a geometrical feature that is simple to describe as an opening in the flow surface. This opening can be idealized as a round hole or an azimuthal slot that leads to a cavity inside the body.

2.0APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS
2.1Test Geometry Configuration Document (attached); and
2.2Test Plan (attached).
3.0SCOPE OF WORK
3.1The Contractor shall collaborate with NSWCDD to prepare for gap-cavity testing at the Tri-Sonic Wind Tunnel at the University of Mississippi.
3.2The Contractor shall coordinate with NSWCDD TPOCs for pre-test planning and to establish instrumentation, measurement criteria, define performance metrics, and test plan set up.
3.3The Contractor shall test seven (7) geometry configurations with one (1) to three (3) experimental runs per geometry.
3.3.1The Contractor shall ensure that the Test geometry configurations is in accordance with the test geometry configuration document.
3.4The Contractor shall provide instrumentation necessary to observe phenomena as follows:
3.4.1The experimental research is targeted toward four objectives, listed in descending order of importance: 1. Observe local thermal and structural affects around and in a cavity during hypersonic wind tunnel testing; 2. Observe surface heat flux in the mid section around the gap/cavity feature; 3. Observe changes in fluid-structure interaction; and 4. Observe global changes in aerodynamic forces.
3.5The Contractor shall support up to ten (10) days of testing for up to four (4) different test geometries.
3.6The Contractor shall coordinate with the technical points of contact identified below to accomplish this work.
4.0DATA DELIVERABLES
4.1The Contractor shall provide data IAW CDRL A001.
5.0PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE

The period of performance is a nine (9) months after receipt of the order.

6.0 TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

No travel is required.

7.0 SECURITY

All work to be performed under this SOW is unclassified.
