About this file

This document is a Requirements and Specifications document for a Squeezing Laser Amplifier. The key details are:

The product required is a high-power, low-noise, widely operable laser amplifier system with a nominal wavelength range that includes 1064 nm. The laser amplifier must have an operational wavelength range greater than 20 nm, an optical gain of at least 22 dB, input/output isolation of at least 30 dB, a self-contained benchtop or rack unit with integrated temperature/current control, polarization maintaining input/output fiber, polarization extinction ratio of at least 15 dB, and a total output power of at least 5 watts. Additional requirements include shipping and delivery details, installation, warranty, training, and maintenance. This requirement is being procured by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Acquisition Management Division, under Solicitation Number NB672030-24-02789R.

Requirements / Specification Document

Use this document to detail the specifications/requirements for an item and/or ancillary services.

TITLE: Squeezing Laser Amplifier

Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group:

Communications Technology Laboratory Radio Frequency Technology Division Highspeed Measurements Group

General Statement of Need:

The product to be procured is a high-power, low-noise, widely operable laser amplifier system with a nominal wavelength range that includes 1064 nm, which will be essential for the generation of optical squeezed states used to interact with microwave-optical transducer devices being developed by NIST. As part of the Quantum Networking and Transduction project within the Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL), the squeezing laser amplifier will provide a strong coherent pump to drive an optical parametric amplifier to generate quantum squeezed states. The high mechanical stability of this generation of device is accomplished with a partially fixed transducer cavity design whereby it is the laser, and thus the laser amplifier, that must be tuned into optical resonance. The first technical requirement is a wide operating range of at least 20 nm, which allows the laser to achieve resonance with partially and fully fixed transducer cavity designs. The second technical requirement is a maximum power of at least 5 watts with a gain of at least 22 dB, allowing the laser to traverse the many lossy optical elements needed for beam preparation before addressing the transducer devices themselves. The third technical requirement is an integrated system for temperature stabilization, current control, and remote programming operation of the device. Additional technical specifications are noted below.
