Specifications:
This is a request for the purchase of a four axis Computer Numeric Controlled mill.
The justification for need and Operations approval is that we will need to purchase the CNC to update our aging CNC mill, circa late 1990’s.
This procurement is essential to the science mission of the USGS. The USGS mission essential functions involve providing information that supports decision makers and resource managers in the preservation of life, health and safety of the American people, and related information delivery systems for global monitoring and reporting. The resources identified in this procurement support the ability of the USGS to capture, process, monitor, report and distribute scientific data in a timely manner. In making this procurement decision, USGS considered alternative solutions life cycle requirements and interoperability with different CAD systems.
Specifically, the acquisition of a new 4 axis CNC will allow the operations group to continue to provide the quality science support that necessary. The new CNC will allow the operations group to upgrade our capabilities to include machining many Plastics and metals such as Stainless Steel and Titanium. This will allow the center to have continued growth which is necessary to achieve project objectives and conduct coastal hazards research at this science center. The purchase should include a 4th axis drive and controller, as well as an appropriate turntable for the 4th axis.
The quotes from Local retailers and service centers in Tampa Florida will be preferred. Otherwise to obtain services from Orlando, Florida, and other places are too costly and inconvenient.
