The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP), Division of Tuberculosis Elimination Division (DTBE) has awarded a Master IDIQ for the Tuberculosis Epidemiologic Studies Consortium (TBESC) Research Project entitled, "Improving the Diagnosis and Treatment of Latent TB Infection." The project objectives are to support TBESC Research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI). The research study conducted includes the evaluation of: (1) Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) and Interferon Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) in diagnosing LTBI and in predicting progression from LTBI to TB Disease; and (2) Measures to enhance adherence and completion of LTBI treatment, such as: shorter-course LTBI preventive therapy, self-administered versus directly observed preventive therapy, and education programs (either general or targeted to specific high-risk populations).
