The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Alaska Region (USDA FS R10) awarded an Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) valued at up to $7.6 million to Carter & Carter Enterprises, Inc., a minority-owned, economically disadvantaged, women-owned small business. This IDC contract, set aside for 100% small business participation, is to provide thinning services including precommercial thinning, pruning, slash treatment, and mechanical thinning across the Tongass and Chugach National Forests in Alaska.
To date, over $4.7 million in task orders have been issued under this IDC for projects such as 1,659 acres of thinning with gaps and corridors in Ketchikan ($1,288,520), 596 acres of precommercial thinning in Ketchikan ($422,080), and 695 acres of precommercial thinning in Craig ($490,600). These firm fixed price task orders range in period of performance from 2022 through 2025 and will help reduce forest fuels and open canopy in targeted areas across Alaska's national forests. The original solicitation specified Service Contract Act wage rates from $13.94 to $26.79 per hour for the thinning work.
