This Project Grant award of $142,709 from the National Endowment for the Humanities under the Promotion of the Humanities Public Programs program will support Old North Illuminated, Inc., doing business as Old North Foundation Bstn Inc., to develop and deliver new interpretive programming at the Old North Church & Historic Site in Massachusetts. Key products and services include hiring a manager and consultant to reimagine the site's interpretive plan with a focus on researching and documenting the experiences of free and enslaved Black congregants. Funding will also support refining exhibition content and curricula, offering a monthly speaker series, and producing a new training guide, online exhibit, and K-12 classroom materials. The project aims to provide a more comprehensive accounting of the site's history in time for upcoming milestone celebrations. No subawards are planned.
