A VALLEY METRO BUS SHELTER IS LOCATED ON THE FUTURE SIDEWALK; THE SIDEWALK WOULD EXTEND 3780 FT (0.7 OF A MILE) FROM THE LEFT OF THE BUS SHELTER AND 1820 FT (0.34 OF A MILE) TO THE RIGHT OF THE BUS SHELTER. THE PROJECT WILL INCLUDE ADDITIONAL STRIPING TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC ALONG SAID STRETCH OF ROAD PROJECT DESCRIPTION IS UPLOADED IN DOCUMENTS. ANY ADDITIONAL PROJECT COSTS WILL BE COVERED BY THE CITY OF SAN BENITO.THIS PROJECT APPLICATION UTILIZES THE FOLLOWING SECTION 5307 FUNDS:HARLINGEN UZA FULL 5307 ALLOCATION OF $2152283$300000 USED IN THE GRANT$1527452 USED IN TX-2021-064$324831 REMAINING BALANCE TO BE USED IN A FUTURE GRANT.; EXPECTED OUTCOMES: THIS PROJECT WILL IMPROVE MOBILITY IN THE AREA INCREASE PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC AND ACCESS TO NEARBY PUBLIC SERVICES AND PROVIDE SAFE ACCESS TO THE BUS STOP LOCATED ON PALMA ST CITY OF SAN BENITO TX.; INTENDED BENEFICIARIES: THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO MAKE TRANSPORTATION A POSSIBILITY FOR EVERYONE SO THEY MAY REACH THE SERVICES IN THE COMMUNITY. THE ABILITY TO NAVIGATE FROM ONE LOCATION TO ANOTHER IS OFTEN TAKEN FOR GRANTED. WITH THESE PROJECTS IT IS EXPECTED TO SEE AN INCREASE IN PEDESTRIANS UTILIZING SIDEWALKS TO REACH TRANSPORTATION BUS SHELTERS AND BETTER COORDINATION OF TRIPS. THE SIDEWALK WOULD ALLOW FOR PEOPLE 65 AND OLDER AS WELL AS PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES TO HAVE GREATER EASE OF MOBILITY THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.; SUBRECIPIENT ACTIVITIES: THE CITY OF SAN BENITO WILL CONDUCT ALL PROCUREMENT PHASES FOR THE LA PALMA SIDEWALK PROJECT TO INCLUDE AN ENGINEERING FIRM FOR THE DESIGN AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE SIDEWALK AS WELL AS THE CONSTRUCTION PHASE. THE CITY OF SAN BENITO WILL ALSO PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION AND PROJECT UPDATES REQUESTED BY THE LRGVDC.
