The University of Rochester received a $958,975 federal Project Grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Biomedical Research and Research Training program (CFDA 93.859) to support the University of Rochester Medical Scientist Training Program (UR-MSTP). The award, effective July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2029, aims to provide an integrated environment for the rigorous and efficient training of future physician-scientists. Key objectives include: 1) Provide integrated research and clinical training to develop skills for translating discoveries into clinical practice; 2) Support and guide trainees across a range of biomedical disciplines, highlighting multidisciplinary approaches; 3) Develop a diverse community of physician-scientist trainees; and 4) Comprehensively evaluate the MSTP. The grant will fund the recruitment of 8 new MSTP students annually to maintain a cohort of 60-65 trainees working towards both MD and PhD degrees.
