The Friends of Historic Second Church will use a $512,728 Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the Save America's Treasures program to conduct conservation treatments at the Second Presbyterian Church of Chicago. Three conservation firms will stabilize and repair interior design elements in the sanctuary, including a large mural, wooden framework supporting angels and arches, and two metal organ screens. Extensive cleaning and paint and plaster stabilization and repair will be performed, along with rewiring of light fixtures and repairs to the angels and organ screens. The grant will help preserve the church, a National Historic Landmark designed in the American Arts and Crafts style by noted Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw.
