The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through its Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (CFDA 14.276), awarded a $1,991,525 Project Grant to Eastern Carolina Homelessness Org, Inc. (ECHO) on December 1, 2024. The funding will support ECHO's efforts to develop and implement a coordinated community approach to preventing and ending youth homelessness in the Myrtle Beach, SC area. Eligible activities under the grant include acquisition and rehabilitation of housing, rental assistance, supportive services, and implementation of a homeless management information system. The primary objectives of the YHDP program are to build national momentum, promote equity, highlight youth leadership, evaluate the coordinated community approach, expand capacity, evaluate performance measures, and establish a framework for federal program and technical assistance collaboration. By the end of the project period on May 31, 2027, ECHO aims to achieve significant decreases in youth homelessness, increased income and well-being of participants, improved community-level understanding of youth homelessness, and new or enhanced partnerships among youth-serving organizations in the Myrtle Beach area.
