This $4,260,300 project grant from the National Institutes of Health's National Institute on Aging will fund research under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to investigate the association between in utero environmental exposures and life-course cognition and prodromal Alzheimer's disease in midlife. The Public Health Institute will leverage existing data and biospecimens from the 50+ year follow up of the Child Health and Development Studies birth cohort to conduct targeted and untargeted metabolomics analysis using GC-MS and LC-MS techniques. This will help identify associations between prenatal pesticide, PAH and novel exposures with 50-year Alzheimer's-related outcomes and metabolic response. The grant will also fund research to identify potentially actionable midlife biomarkers by analyzing associations between an altered midlife metabolome and Alzheimer's outcomes. Subawards totaling $XXX,XXX will support contributions from the Regents of the University of California at Riverside to assist with data analysis and paper authoring, the Trustees of Columbia University for advice on exposure variables, metabolomics data, and data analysis strategies, and Florida International University to determine concentrations of prodromal Alzheimer's disease biomarkers in midlife.
