The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) awarded a $295,481 Project Grant (CFDA 93.846 - Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases Research) to Inprint Bio LLC, a for-profit limited liability company located in Farmington, CT. The grant supports the development of "MuscleInk", a colloidal scaffold impregnated with insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1-LR3) to promote muscle regeneration for the treatment of volumetric muscle loss (VML) injuries. The key objectives are to characterize the physical and mechanical properties of the MuscleInk scaffold, verify the efficacy of the IGF1-LR3 growth factor, and evaluate the in vitro and in vivo performance of the MuscleInk+ scaffold in murine VML models. Successful completion of this 1-year project could lead to further testing in a translational pig model and initiate the regulatory pathway towards commercialization of MuscleInk or MuscleInk+ as a one-time filler/scaffold product for plastic and general surgery applications.
