This $296,519 federal Project Grant from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (CFDA 93.307 - Minority Health and Health Disparities Research) supports the development and pilot testing of the MIREA mobile health (mHealth) intervention to address problematic alcohol and marijuana use among minority college students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and rural Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) universities. The award to Mhealth Systems, Inc. will fund a 12-month Phase I project to determine the usability, feasibility, and initial efficacy of the culturally-tailored MIREA-AC app. This will include alpha testing and a multi-site pilot trial with 60 minority students who have violated campus substance use policies. The project aims to expand the existing MIREA motivational intervention and make it more accessible, scalable, and cost-effective compared to in-person approaches, particularly for underserved minority college populations disproportionately impacted by substance misuse.
