Project Grant R41AI188656
- This $625,276 Project Grant awarded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) is focused on understanding the mechanisms used by the bacterial pathogen Coxiella burnetii to manipulate host cells and cause the human disease Q-fever. The project leverages newly developed genetic tools to investigate how specific Coxiella effector proteins interfere with host immune responses, promote the formation...
- This Project Grant awarded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research federal grant program (CFDA 93.855), aims to develop a novel vaccine candidate that stimulates immune protection against multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MDR-AB). The $288,360 award to Biological Mimetics, Inc., a biotechnology firm in Frederick, Maryland, supports a Phase I project to: (1) identify and characterize key immunogenic...
- This federal Project Grant award, funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855), provides $248,531 to Zabbio Inc. for the development of a monoclonal antibody therapy to treat neonatal herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections. The project aims to assess the neutralization potency of the HSV8 monoclonal antibody against HSV-1 and HSV-2 isolates, and to test whether HSV8 selects for HSV escape...
- This federal Project Grant award of $867,563 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855), aims to develop a pioneering class of nanobodies engineered from llama immune systems to provide comprehensive protection against all betacoronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-1, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2. The key products and services to be delivered include: Identifying and characterizing a diverse repertoire...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $306,500 Project Grant under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to Qrono, Inc., a for-profit medical research and development company. The grant funding supports the development of QR402, a first-in-class, oral nanomedicine that uses an AMPK pathway agonist to target intestinal dendritic cells and restore immunological tolerance as a preventative therapy for type 1 diabetes. The goal is to...
- This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855), provides $320,863 to Jericho Sciences, LLC to support the translational development of a small molecule therapeutic for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The project aims to validate the proposed drug target, the hepatitis B X regulatory protein (HBx), which plays a critical role in HBV covalently...
- This $1,174,636 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research federal grant program (CFDA 93.855) supports the development of next-generation ELQ compounds for the treatment and prevention of malaria. The research aims to identify novel, rapidly acting anti-malarial drugs to target the blood and liver stages of the Plasmodium falciparum parasite, as well as formulations suitable for long-acting...
- This federal Project Grant award of $300,001 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) supports research by Fimbrion Therapeutics Inc. to develop novel small molecule drugs targeting the respiratory protein QcrB in mycobacteria. The goal is to create new antimicrobial therapies to treat infections caused by non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), which are highly resistant to existing antibiotics...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $299,995 Project Grant under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to Xiretsa Inc., a minority-owned small business located in Santa Barbara, CA. The grant will fund the development of a novel class of antimicrobial compounds called Anti-Infective Conjugated Electrolytes (ACEs) that target the bacterial cell membrane to address the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. The project...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $835,137 Project Grant under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research Federal Grant Program (CFDA 93.855) to the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) to create a Repository of Monoclonal Antibodies (ROMA) for use in small animal models like hamsters and guinea pigs to evaluate infectious and inflammatory disorders. The project aims to develop a panel of monoclonal antibodies targeting surface markers on...
This Project Grant, awarded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), provides $301,674 to Zenvax LLC for the development of a monoclonal antibody (MAB) treatment against human Q fever, a severe and potentially fatal zoonotic disease caused by the Coxiella burnetii bacterium. The objective of this Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase I project is to demonstrate the feasibility of using a humanized 1E4 MAB (H1E4) as a rapid, effective emergency prophylactic and therapeutic treatment for controlling human Q fever. Prior research by Zenvax has shown that the mouse 1E4 MAB can provide significant protection against C. burnetii aerosol infection in mice, and that the humanized variant H1E4 can inhibit C. burnetii infection in mice and human macrophages. This award will allow Zenvax to further prove the concept that MAB can be utilized as a strategy against this intracellular bacterial pathogen, with the goal of advancing toward clinical development of an emergency treatment for human Q fever.
