This federal Project Grant award from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), under the Mental Health Research Grants program (CFDA 93.242), aims to adapt and evaluate an evidence-based mental health curriculum for individuals recently released from incarceration. The $233,250 award to the University of Wisconsin - Madison will support two key objectives: 1) adapting the Healthy Minds Program (HMP) curriculum for an in-person, trauma-informed delivery to formerly incarcerated individuals, in collaboration with community partners and advisory board members; and 2) conducting a pilot randomized controlled trial to establish the feasibility, acceptability, adherence, and preliminary effectiveness of the adapted HMP-Reentry (HMP-R) curriculum. The long-term goal is to integrate evidence-based mental health support into existing reentry programming to promote healing and successful community reintegration for this population.
