The National Institute on Aging (NIA) awarded a $229,950 Project Grant under the Aging Research Federal Grant Program (CFDA 93.866) to the Northern California Institute for Research and Education, Inc. (NCIRE) to develop, refine, and test the feasibility and acceptability of an online group singing intervention for older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The project will be conducted in two phases: 1) developing and refining the online singing intervention using the JackTrip virtual studio platform, and 2) conducting a randomized pilot trial to examine the feasibility of the intervention and the assessments of proposed targets, including interpersonal/social processes, stress reactivity, and self-regulation. The successful completion of this study will support a larger randomized effectiveness trial to evaluate the online singing intervention as a viable non-pharmacological approach for addressing cognitive decline in MCI and other age-related brain disorders.
