The University of Chicago received a $456,764 Project Grant award from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) under the Cancer Cause and Prevention Research program (CFDA 93.393) to study differences in bile acid metabolism and colonic responses between African Americans and non-Hispanic whites. The 2-year project aims to 1) compare serum bile acid composition, 2) perform microbiome profiling of tissue and stool samples, and 3) test for differences in transcriptional and cellular responses to specific bile acids in colonic organoids from individuals of African and European descent.
