The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $233,528 federal Project Grant (CFDA 93.855 - Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research) to Childrens Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The grant will support a 2-year research project to conduct a systems analysis of immune responses to norovirus infection in a human challenge model. The researchers will profile the transcriptomic, cytokine, and innate immune cell responses in blood and stool samples collected from volunteers infected with different strains and doses of norovirus. This data will be integrated with comprehensive measurements of humoral and cellular anti-norovirus immunity to identify early transcriptional signatures that predict the development of effective adaptive immune responses. The goal is to provide deeper insights into the immune responses to wild-type norovirus infection and lay groundwork for understanding immune responses to potential norovirus vaccine candidates.
