The University of Southern California received a $185,040 Project Grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (CFDA 93.242 Mental Health Research Grants) to pilot test and evaluate a "total school approach" to addressing HIV-related stigma and discrimination in Zambian boarding schools. The study aims to co-create stigma reduction intervention packages with learners, teachers, staff, and people living with HIV, and then train them to deliver trainings to at least 80% of each school's population. A formative phase will adapt a "total facility approach" for healthcare settings to the boarding school context, and a pre-post study will assess the impact on stigma, discrimination, and broader safeguarding measures. A mixed-methods process evaluation will explore implementation barriers and facilitators to inform sustainability and scale-up. The University of Southern California also issued a $29,600 sub-award to support this work.
