The University of Kentucky Research Foundation was awarded a $721,862 Project Grant by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) under the Mental Health Research Grants program (CFDA 93.242). The 5-year grant, effective August 1, 2024, will support research to characterize functional connectivity and fear extinction abnormalities in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and test the effects of frontopolar transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on normalizing these neural and behavioral deficits. The research aims to improve understanding of the neural basis of safety learning impairments in OCD and evaluate tDCS as a potential augmentation to exposure and response prevention therapy. Findings from this project could inform the development of novel interventions for OCD and other anxiety disorders.
