The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) has awarded a $812,950 Project Grant under the Mental Health Research Grants (CFDA 93.242) program to Geisinger Clinic, doing business as Geisinger Health Group. This 5-year grant, awarded on September 16, 2024, aims to advance precision psychiatry through a learning healthcare system framework.
The project, titled "7/7-PSYCHEMERGE: ADVANCING PRECISION PSYCHIATRY," has four key objectives: 1) Developing a nationwide federated transfer-learning platform for generalizable and bias-aware algorithms; 2) Integrating state-of-the-art methods to perform inclusive trans-ancestry genomic analysis and leverage medical record data to discover novel biology for precision psychiatry; 3) Applying algorithms to use cases such as differential diagnosis between bipolar disorder 1 and other mood disorders, as well as probabilistic treatment response to antidepressants; and 4) Assessing the feasibility, utility, and attitudes towards precision psychiatry tools. The project will leverage a combined sample of over 29 million clinical EHR records and 2 million genetic datasets across 12 diverse sites.
