The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) awarded a $802,423 Project Grant under the Mental Health Research Grants program (CFDA 93.242) to the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) to conduct a comprehensive psychometric evaluation and validation study of a Social Cognition Battery for Psychosis-Risk (SCB-PR) individuals.

The primary objectives are to: 1) Evaluate the psychometric properties of a battery of social cognitive measures in 180 clinical high-risk (CHR) individuals and 90 healthy controls; 2) Refine the battery based on the initial psychometric data; and 3) Longitudinally validate the refined battery in an additional 120 CHR and 60 healthy participants to assess the measures' relationships with current and future clinical/social functioning. The study will also compare the performance of the final battery to commonly used, unvalidated instruments.

The University of Texas at Dallas is collaborating with researchers at Northwestern University, who will participate in data analysis and interpretation through a federal grant sub-award. The resulting validated SCB-PR battery is expected to provide a robust assessment tool to aid in identifying individuals at high risk for developing psychotic disorders and inform the development of personalized interventions.
