The University of Florida Division of Sponsored Research has been awarded a $514,964 federal Project Grant from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (CFDA 93.307 Minority Health and Health Disparities Research program) to examine racial and ethnic disparities in the use of supportive care medications and their impact on health-related quality of life among pancreatic cancer patients.

The key objectives of this 5-year research project are to: 1) derive a socio-behavioral phenotype explaining supportive care medication use disparities in racial/ethnic minority pancreatic cancer patients, 2) determine how socio-behavioral factors, medication use, and race influence patient quality of life outcomes, and 3) identify facilitators and barriers to supportive care medication use from patient and provider perspectives. The research will leverage quantitative analysis of national cancer registry and survey data, as well as qualitative interviews, to provide insights for improving medication access and utilization in this underserved population.
