The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has been awarded a $822,181 Project Grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) under the Cardiovascular Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.837). The 5-year grant will fund a study titled "PHYSIOLOGY-DIRECTED EPINEPHRINE DOSING IN PEDIATRIC CARDIAC ARREST (PEDICA)". The study aims to advance cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques for pediatric in-hospital cardiac arrest by examining the physiologic response to epinephrine administration and developing methods to personalize epinephrine dosing strategies. This research will leverage CHOP's expertise and the existing infrastructure of the Pediatric Resuscitation Quality Collaborative (PediRES-Q) network. CHOP has also issued two sub-awards for this project - one to the University of Utah for data management and statistical support, and one to Villanova University for developing machine learning algorithms to predict epinephrine response and resuscitation outcomes.
